There is no such thing as the best cigar. There is a top slice of the catalog where a lot of people agree, and that is what this page is: a query, run against every rating we hold, with the rule printed above the results so you can disagree with it.

The 90 line is not arbitrary. It is the convention hobbyists already read — 86 sits in the middle of the rated catalog and 90 starts the top tenth. The ten-review floor is there because a single enthusiastic review is not evidence.

Why one cigar per brand family

Without that cut, a handful of makers take most of the top of the score distribution, which is a real finding but a useless list. The cut works on the brand family, so two lines from the same house can still both appear if they are branded differently. What it reliably stops is one maker taking the whole page.

This list has no year on it

Deliberately. A "best cigars of 2026" page is stale in January and it is a promise to rewrite the page every year. The rule above runs against the catalog as it stands, so the page changes when the ratings change.

The honest limits

  • Price is a filter here, not a factor. A cigar with no price on record is excluded, because we could not tell you what you are being asked to pay. This drops a lot of discontinued stock.
  • Expensive cigars are over-represented at the top, and we do not correct for that. For value, use best cheap cigars, where the rule caps price at $10.
  • Cuban cigars are left out. They cannot legally be sold in the United States, so they do not belong on a buying list. They stay in the catalog with their own pages.
